GIMPshopを試す

スラッシュドットでGIMPshopという、Scott MoschellaによるGIMP 2.2.4をハックしてメニューや用語をPhotoshopちっくに変更したものが紹介されている。おもしろそうなので、試してみる。
インストールは非常に簡単、ディスクイメージをダウンロードして、アプリファイルを移すだけ。但し、使用に際しては、X11がインストールされている必要がある。また、初回起動時にGIMPshop落ちることがあるとのこと。私の環境でも落ちた。しかし、もう一度起動すると何事もなく起動され、それ以降はそのような現象は発生しない。
確かに、メニューはPhotoshopの構成に非常に近い。Photoshopに慣れたユーザーはGIMPのUIは取っ付きにくく、使い辛い。でも、GIMPshopなら、どこに何があるか知っているから非常に使いやすい。この、どこに何があるかを知っている、は実は非常に重要。マニュアル読む必要ないですからね。私も今まではGIMPは避けてきたけれど、これなら使える！
PhotoshopにあってGIMPshop(というかGIMP)にないものはまだまだあるが(例えば16bit編集とか)、GIMPそのものはまだまだ発展途上なので、今後にさらに期待。
